Betting on the Germany

How do you say “miracle on ice” in Germany? The Germans pulled off an earth-shaking upset in the semis against Canada, topping the defending champions on Friday, 4-3. Prior to shocking the hockey world, Germany had an unforgettable start to the tournament, which only makes its entry into the gold medal stage even more stunning. Germany lost to Finland in its opener, 5-2, and lost its succeeding match to Sweden, 1-0. The Germans finally got momentum with a 2-1 win over Norway followed by a 2-1 victory over Switzerland in the quarterfinals. Then they avenged their earlier loss to Sweden with a 4-3 win in the quarters to book a spot in the semifinals, where they punched the Canadians in the mouth. The Germans now face a very tall task of taking down OAR, which boasts of a deeper roster and a decidedly more talented cast of players. That said, the Germans have some players with NHL experiences in the forms of Christian Ehrhoff and Marcel Goc.

Betting on the Olympic Athletes from Russia

The Olympic Athletes from Russia should thank Germany for apparently giving them an easier matchup in the finals – at least on paper. Having said that, the Russians can’t afford to take their foot off the pedal, as the Germans are now pumped up by an emotional and extremely morale-boosting victory over Canada. In any case, the Russians are hoping that talent and not the intangibles would dictate the outcome. The Russians have the pair of Ilya Kovalchuk and Pavel Datsyuk. Both are no longer playing the NHL, but it was not that long ago when the former was scoring 40-plus goals seasons in that league. Kovalchuk owns 417 goals in the NHL. Datsyuk, meanwhile, netted 314 goals in the NHL to go with 604 assists. After going down to Slovakia in the opener, 3-2, OAR went on to win its next four assignments, outscoring Slovenia,  USA, Norway, and Czechoslovakia, 21-3. With a bunch of firepower and terrific defense, the Russians are poised to win it all this Sunday.

Writer’s Prediction:

OAR (Russia) beats Germany and takes the Gold Medal. Final score: 6-1.
