The Baltimore Orioles couldn’t prevent the Seattle Mariners from winning their head-to-head race towards 60 wins this season, as the former fell to the latter on Tuesday, 3-1.<\/p>\n

Not only did the Seattle Mariners snap their five-game losing streak with Tuesday’s win, they also gained a half-game lead over the Orioles for the final AL wild card spot.<\/p>\n

The M’s are no stranger to losing close decisions, but Tuesday’s two-run lead may signal the start of better fortunes once more. Prior to their five-game skid, six of their most-recent wins were decided by three runs or less. What’s even better is that they came out on top with star third baseman Kyle Seager absent from Tuesday’s contest with a stomach virus.<\/p>\n

Seager may have to sit out Wednesday’s clash against the Orioles again, but at least fellow teammate, Robinson Cano, has had Baltimore’s upcoming starter’s number. Cano has a glowing .643 batting average along with two home runs and four RBIs lifetime against Jimenez.<\/p>\n

Rookie Marco Gonzales\u00a0(0-0, 8.49 ERA) will be making his second big-league start for Seattle, and his debut from last Friday is rather promising. Gonzales gave up just one run on four hits in 4.1 innings of work against playoff-hungry division rivals the Los Angeles Angels.<\/p>\n
