The Golden Flashes were trending in a definite bad direction when they lost three games in a row from October to November but managed to found their groove in time to warrant a bowl game appearance. Kent State finished the regular season on a three-game winning streak, which includes a 34-26 road win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Nov. 29. The Golden Flashes rely mostly on their rushing attack that has produced an average of 184.5 rushing yards per game on 4.4 rushing yards per carry. The leader of their ground game is also the quarterback of the team in Dustin Crumm, who had 530 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the season. Meanwhile, running back Will Matthews managed 514 rushing yards and just a pair of touchdowns. Partly because they run the ball a lot, the Golden Flashes only averaged 0.8 giveaways per contest –fourth-fewest in the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n

After getting demolished by then no. 20 Boise State Broncos at home on Nov. 23, 56-21, the Aggies took advantage of a much lighter opponent by destroying the New Mexico Lobos on the road on Nov. 30, 38-25. Utah State quarterback Jordan Love went 18 for 35 for 172 passing yards and three touchdowns against an interception in the New Mexico game, while running back Gerold Bright shone for 113 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Although the Aggies had 196 rushing yards and two scores on 41 carries against the Lobos, one shouldn\u2019t mistake Utah State as a run-first team. Unlike the Golden Flashes, Utah State is a pass-heavy team that is 24th in the nation with a 54.01 pass play percentage. The Aggies are also 32nd nationally with 265.4 passing yards per contest. Still, the Aggies might have to do more running against Kent State. After all, the Golden Flashes have one of the worst run defenses overall with 250.1 rushing yards allowed per game.<\/span><\/p>\n
