It was a bad-needed reminder of why he’s paid by the 49ers a fortune to call signals under center for the team. The 49ers need Garoppolo to be just as effective against New England, but Jimmy GQ also needs his offensive line to show up once again. Garoppolo did not take a sack against Aaron Donald and the Rams, so the expectation of the 49ers’ offensive line is high heading into Week 7.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From a certain perspective, the Patriots’ 18-12 home loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday was more understandable than surprising. For one, the Patriots had to go through a COVID-19 ordeal that limited their practice time and forced them into an unscheduled bye. But if that is now all behind them now, the Patriots should be a whole lot better when they face the 49ers this weekend. Cam Newton played his first game since recovering from the coronavirus and passed for just 157 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions on 17-of-25 completions. The Broncos made a concerted effort to take away the Patriots’ rushing attack and let Newton to pass more, but while they succeeded, the 49ers may not be as successful if they go that same route, as New England is likely in a much better form this week, given all the rusts it has finally shaken off by Sunday. The Patriots are third in the NFL with a 49.85 rush play percentage and second with 167.2 rushing yards per game.<\/span><\/p>\n
