Louisville avenged its conference play defeat to the NC State Wolfpack on Friday, beating its ACC rivals, 75-65 in the Sweet 16 round. Rick Pitino\u2019s team now takes its turn of trying to stop the overachieving Spartans.<\/p>\n

Quentin Snider and Wayne Blackshear, meanwhile, contributed 14 and 10 points, respectively.<\/p>\n

Snider and Blackshear\u2019s performances against NC State are good signs for Louisville, which has been looking for other players to lend support to Harrell and Rozier. Snider appears to be a revelation in this tournament, as he has averaged 13.3 points over Louisville\u2019s last three games. On the season, the freshman guard is averaging just 3.8 points per game.<\/p>\n

Scoring aside, Louisville\u2019s defense will be the team\u2019s key to taking down Michigan State, as the Cardinals \u00a0are allowing their opponents to score just 59.4 points per game. The Cardinals are also poised to neutralize Michigan State\u2019s three-point shooting, as they are ranked ninth overall in the nation in defending against outside shots with opponents shooting only 29.5 percent from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n

Travis Trice paced the team with 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting against Oklahoma. Thus far in this tournament, \u00a0Trice and Valentine have been big for Michigan State, which would have no business playing in the Elite Eight had it not for the duo\u2019s scoring exploits. Trice has scored 47 total points over the last two games, while Valentine is averaging 12.7 points in Michigan State\u2019s previous three outings. But with a looming threat of Louisville\u2019s vaunted defense, other Spartans must find ways on how to contribute more on offense as the Cards certainly have put target marks on Trice\u2019s and Valentine\u2019s backs.<\/p>\n

That means the likes of Branden Dawson and Matt Costello will have to play expanded roles against Louisville. Dawson, who scored just six points against Oklahoma, is averaging 12.1 points per game this season. Costello, meanwhile, is putting up 7.2 a game.<\/p>\n
