Apart from the dazzling display of Cook, credit must also be given to the Spartans\u2019 defense for their victory on Saturday. Michigan State buckled down to work in the fourth quarter, holding Indiana scoreless in the final 15 minutes. They will need more of the same defensive intensity for them to preserve their unbeaten record against Nebraska.\u00a0The Spartans are allowing just 22.1 points per game this season, 36th<\/sup> in the FBS. They will have their work cut out for them, however, against a Nebraska offense that is averaging 33.3 points per contest this campaign, good for 44th<\/sup> in the entire FBS.<\/p>\n

Nebraska\u2019s losing woes show no sign of abating as the Cornhuskers crashed to their second consecutive defeat with a gut-wrenching 55-45 loss to Purdue on Saturday. The Cornhuskers had difficulty stopping Purdue quarterback David Blough who threw for 274 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for another score.<\/p>\n

It was a disappointing result for Nebraska who has now lost four of its last five games. The main reason behind the Cornhuskers\u2019 meek performance was their unforgivable sloppy play. Nebraska turned the ball over five times against Purdue on Saturday. They will look to get their season back on track when they take on the streaking Michigan State Spartans this coming Saturday. For the Cornhuskers to record a massive upset in this game, they will need to do a much better job of protecting the football.<\/p>\n

The onus is on quarterback Ryker Fyfe to be more efficient with his play against the Spartans. Starting in place of the injured Tommy Armstrong, Fyfe was intercepted four times by the Boilermakers. That kind of passing performance simply won\u2019t do against a Michigan State defense that has already racked up seven picks this season.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also crucial for the Cornhuskers that they step up their play on the defensive end, particularly on third-down opportunities. Nebraska had a hard time getting off the field on defense in its last game against Purdue, allowing the Cornhuskers to convert eight of their 17 third-down chances.
