MVP: Jerry Rice (WR, San Francisco 49ers)
Recap: San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice was playing in his 10th consecutive all-star game in the 1996 Pro Bowl. And he made it worthwhile winning the MVP award in leading the NFC to a 20-to-13 defeat of the AFC. It was the AFC which started the scoring in a long bomb from Cincinnati’s Jeff Blake to Pittsburgh Yancy Thigpen. The duo connected on a 93-yard touchdown pass to give the AFC the early lead. The NFC responded however, and scored three times—including a pair of touchdowns to give the NFC a 20-to-7 lead at the half. Rice netted 82 yards on 6 receptions and 1 TD.
