Recap: After a bad start—a fumble in AFC’s first play from scrimmage, Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon went on to have an MVP-performance in leading his team to a 38-to-30 victory over the NFC. He won the best player of the game award for the second straight year and became the only first back-to-back MVP in Pro Bowl post-merger history. The AFC led after the high-scoring first quarter, 21-to-13. The NFC threatened for a comeback in the third trailing 23-to-28 but the AFC held on to the lead. Gannon completed 8-of-10 passes for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns.
