Super Bowl XIX

Date: January 20, 1985

Venue: Stanford Stadium (Stanford, California)

Attendance: 84,059

Result: San Francisco 49ers def. Miami Dolphins, 38–16

MVP: Joe Montana (QB, San Francisco)

Recap: Stanford Stadium wasn’t exactly the San Francisco 49ers’ turf but it was near enough—30 miles away from their home base— and the 49ers used the pseudo-home court advantage in dealing the Miami Dolphins a 38-to-16 beating in Super Bowl XIX.

It was the Dolphins which had the advantage after the opening quarter, 10-to-7 but the 49ers responded with a big 2nd quarter scoring 21 points of their own and had a 28-to-16 lead at half time. Joe Montana, who had 24-of-35 passes for 331 yards and 3 touchdowns plus 59 rushing yards and a TD, was named the Super Bowl XIX MVP.
