Recap: In a few words, the result of Super Bowl XLII was a giant upset. The underdog New York Giants pulled the improbable by beating the previously-undefeated New England Patriots, 17-to-14. The Patriots were looking for their fourth title in seven years and had recorded a 16-0 win-loss card in the regular season (18-0 overall including the playoffs) going into the championship game. The Giants meanwhile, was a wild card qualifier and needed three road wins to advance to the Super Bowl.


Eli Manning completed 19-of-34 passes for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns and was named the Super Bowl XLII MVP. In the fourth quarter, he had 9-of-14 passes for 152 yards and the 2 TDs. New York wide receiver Amani Toomer had 6 catches for 84 yards.
