Recap: A young quarterback named Joe Montana was rising up in the ranks despite being just in his third year in the NFL. In the first half, it was the young Montana who had found the end zone twice and the 49ers added two more field goals to carry a 20-to-0 lead at the half. Cincinnati tried to make a comeback in the second half scoring two consecutive TDs but it wasn’t enough as the 49ers converted two more field goals and held on to the 26-to-21 win. Montana was the Super Bowl XVI MVP of the game completing 14-of-22 passes for 157 yards and finishing with 2 TDs.
