2016 French Open Prize Money Breakdown
The Total Payout
2016 is the final year of the French Open committee’s four-year plan of raising the tournament’s total prize money. And with that, a whopping total of €12 million is at stake – €12,032,000 to be exact or about $13.6 million – for each of Roland Garros’ singles competitions both from the ATP and the WTA this year.
The €12 million prize pool is made even more attractive for tennis players looking to simply cash in from the event when you consider that the total prize pool in 2015 was just at €10.45 million. That’s a whopping 15-percent increase year-on-year, which is almost unheard of in other sports using a similar pay structure.Having said that, perhaps the biggest winners of this new prize-money distribution scheme are the ones that make it as far as merely the third round of the tournament, who will take home no less than 100,000 Euros beginning at that leg of the event as compared to just €85,000 in 2015.
Then again, who wants to settle for just a hundred grand when you can take home a cool €2 million all on your own as this year’s French Open champion, right?
