One player who can definitely surprise this week is Juan Martin Del Potro. The Argentine star has been playing some solid tennis of late, winning 12 of his last 15 matches. He grabbed the silver medal in the Rio Olympics and reached the quarterfinals of the US Open during that stretch. Del Potro also loves playing in the Swiss Indoors as evidenced by his back-to-back tournament wins here in 2012 and 2013. With the form that he is in right now and his experience with this particular event, look for Del Potro to add to his trophy collection this week.
Jack Sock
Another player who loves playing here in Basel is Jack Sock. He reached the semifinals of this event last year before losing to eventual champion Roger Federer in straight sets. Sock, the highest-ranked American in this week’s field, has a remarkable 29-18 record this season. 19 of those 29 wins have come on the hard courts. Look for Sock to go one better in this event and record his first ATP tournament win this year.
David Goffin
Another player who can definitely make a run at the Swiss Indoors title this week is David Goffin. The Belgian has reached the quarterfinals of this event in each of the past two years. His game seems to be suited indoors as he is 7-3 in this type of venue this year. Goffin is 45-21 overall this season, including 28-14 in hard-court matches. While he has risen from No. 26 to a career-high No. 12 this year, Goffin has yet to win a title this season. Look for Goffin to end his title drought this week here in Basel.
