PGA Parlayable Matchups: 2016 British Open

Recommended Picks

Kevin Chappell (-130) over Padraig Harrington (EVEN)

250x130-FREE-$500-LIMITED-TIME-BONUS-6-16-16

Don’t be surprised to see that two-time British Open winner Padraig Harrington is an underdog in his head-to-head matchup against World No. 32 Kevin Chappell. Harrington’s back-to-back wins at The Open from 2007 and 2008 is but an afterthought now, and having been cut from the past three tournaments heading into Royal Troon this week isn’t doing the Irish vet any favors either.

Meanwhile, Fresno native Chappell, who is priced +8,000 to win his first major title, is quietly having a solid 2016 campaign. He’s currently sixth in the race for the FedEx Cup this season behind four top-3 finishes, including his most-recent T3 finish at Firestone just earlier this month.

Jimmy Walker (+110) over Byeong Hun An (-140)

Expect experience to prevail over youth when it comes to major tournaments. Having said that, 15-year pro Jimmy Walker should end up with a better performance at Royal Troon than 24-year-old upstart Byeong Hun An. Walker has made the cut at The Open for two-straight years – each with a sound top-30 finish at that.

Although rising sensation An has two top-10 finishes this season to place him at a decent 31st place in the Official World Golf Rankings, he’s not had such a top-10 finish since May 1. Throw in the fact that An has only made one cut in three trips to The Open (a meager T26 in 2014), and you’d really be better of siding with Walker than the young Korean.

Luke Donald (-125) over Joost Luiten (-105)

In a case of Open Championship experience over current form, you can bank on 38-year-old Luke Donald (+8,000 to win the Open) to have a much better outing at Royal Troon this week than The Netherlands’ Joost Luiten (+10,000).

Luiten may have two top-50 finishes in his last four starts to Donald’s zero, but both of them also suffered a couple of cuts within that same four-tourney span. What sets Donald apart from the 30-year-old Dutch is that he’s coming off a career-best T5 finish at the British Open from last season, whereas Luiten has failed to make the cut in his last two appearances and only has a mere T45 finish from 2012 as his best result from the tournament to show for.
