College Football News and Previews

Bleacher Report (David Kenyon)

Game  Prediction
LSU vs. Texas A&M  LSU (-6.5)
Washington vs. Washington State Washington (-6)
Nebraska vs. Iowa Nebraska (Preview)
Michigan vs. Ohio State Ohio State (-6.5)
Alabama vs. Auburn Auburn (+17)
Minnesota vs. Wisconsin Wisconsin (-14.5)
Michigan State vs. Penn State Michigan State (-12.5)

Kenyon likes the Cougars’ chances on the Apple Cup. It’s been Browning that’s getting most of the praise, but according to the Bleacher Report expert, running back Myles Gaskin will be the key to the W.

In the Michigan-Ohio state matchup, Kenyon noted that the Wolverines’ defense will always make plays, and the coaching staff will always have some tricks on offense. However, running the ball seems to be a really important factor for Kenyon, as he once again chose the team with a better ground game, which are the Buckeyes.

For ‘Bama and Auburn, he said Jalen Hurts and his arm might be in for a long day, with Auburn having a strong run defense (17th in the nation). He predicted the Crimson Tide to win and not be able to cover the spread.

Athlon Sports (JP Scott)

Game Prediction
Michigan vs. Ohio State Michigan (+6.5)
Michigan State vs. Penn State Michigan State (+12)
Boise State vs. Air Force Air Force (+9)
Alabama vs. Auburn Auburn (+17)
West Virginia vs. Iowa State Iowa State (+7)

This dude in upset mode, as he picked five underdogs to take home a win. In picking Michigan, he noted the team’s excellent defense, who are first in in overall D (245.6 yards allowed per game). Scott simply doesn’t trust JT Barrett’s chances against the unit.

For the Spartans-Nittany Lions game, Scott, again, noted the defense, saying that Penn State’s lack of depth on D will be the main cause for an upset.

Boise State’s spread offense, meanwhile, will be slowed down by Air Force, according to Scott. He seems to be a fan of Air Force’s big play receiver Jalen Robinette, as well, noting that the wideout will be the one to “seal the deal.” He also added the toughness of playing and winning in Colorado Springs.

The Auburn upset win will be about the Tigers’ ability to control the tempo, which can be done by their stellar run game (297.8 rushing ypg, fifth in the nation).

As for the Mountaineers-Cyclones game, the Athlon Sports writer said he liked mobile QB Joel Lanning’s resurgence. Lanning is actually a back-up that has recently risen to become a running threat for Iowa State. The junior was unstoppable last week, rushing for 171 yards and five TDs on 10.1 yards per carry. He noted that West Virginia being in the heels of the loss could also affect their morale for Saturday.

SB Nation (Bud Elliot)

Game Prediction
Florida vs. Florida State Florida State (-6.5)
Alabama vs. Auburn Alabama (+17)
Michigan State vs. Penn State Michigan State (+12)

The Seminoles and the Gators will parade a good ‘ol offense versus defense battle, and Elliot believes that the Seminoles’ offense come out on top, especially after seeing Florida’s poor showing on O all season long.

For the ‘Bama-Auburn matchup, Elliot commended the Tigers’ great d-line, but he expects QB Jalen Hurt and his crew will pull out the win when it’s all over. He then added that Auburn’s passing game may fail to go toe-to-toe in moving the ball and scoring.

Michigan State, meanwhile, has made a believer out of Elliot. He noted the Spartans’ great performances in the past couple of weeks as the reason for the pick, while also adding that the spread is too much for Penn State,
