Jonathan Wall | Scott Piercy |
Mike McAllister | Ryan Moore |
Sean Martin | Tony Finau |
Rob Bolton | Ryan Moore |
Ben Everill | Ryan Moore |
Matt Cochran | Ryan Moore |
James Hickey | Tony Finau |
As always, PGA TOUR.com asked seven of its experts to predict a winner for this week’s tournament in Las Vegas. More than half, or four to be exact, picked Ryan Moore (+1,000), who is coming off a T23 finish in China, as the last man standing. After all, he heads into this event not just as the hometown hero, but also as a former champion (2012).
Meanwhile, two experts went with a sleeper in the form of Tony Finau (+3,000). He has a pair of top-20 finishes here, so there’s a fair chance that last year’s Puerto Rico Open champion could steal the glory in Sin City and claim just his second career TOUR victory.

CBS Sports’ Kyle Porter is also going with Tony Finau (+3,000). Other than having previous success at this tourney, the talented, yet underestimated American has a solid shot to emerge on top, or at least thrive, against a relatively weak field of competitors. Finau failed to finish in the top 25 in his first two events (Safeway Open and CIMB Classic) this season, but the third time might be the charm for him.
Golf Week
Expert | Prediction |
---|---|
Jeff Babineau | Ryan Moore |
Brentley Romine | Kevin Na |
Kevin Casey | Jon Rahm |
Mike Glasscott | Ryan Moore |
The people over at Golf Week polled four of their experts and two of them both rode the Ryan-Moore wagon. The other two experts, meanwhile, decided to go different routes by choosing Kevin Na (+2,000) and Jon Rahm (+1,800), arguably two of many intriguing sleepers in Vegas.
Na can even be dubbed as a favorite, considering how he started off the new season—seventh at the Safeway Open—and his previous success at this tournament. The Korean veteran boasts six top-25 finishes in 10 starts here, including a T2 a year ago. Na definitely has some unfinished business to take care of.
Rahm, on the other hand, is thirsty for his first-ever PGA Tour win. That could very well happen this week in Las Vegas, where unpredictability is at its finest. Last year’s finish could testify to that, as Smylie Kaufman rallied from seven strokes back to win his maiden Tour title with a final-round 61.
This event was also where a young, up-and-coming Tiger Woods claimed his first career win, so there’s no reason why a very talented golfer like Rahm can’t accomplish the same.
