Serena Williams (-600) vs. Karolina Pliskova (+400)

250x130-250FREE-6-16-16

Serena Williams was handed her toughest test of the tournament by Simona Halep. The World No. 1 dropped her first set at Flushing, and was facing break point early in the third set. However, she regrouped in time to take down the Romanian, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Her semifinal opponent, Karolina Pliskova, is no stranger to beating top competition. She brought down three top 10-ranked players – Svetlana Kuznetsova, Garbine Muguruza, and Angelique Kerber – en route to winning the Cincinnati Masters. She also ended the tournament of sixth-seed Venus Williams in the US Open round of 16.

But Serena is a much different animal compared to her sister. After suffering a shock loss to Roberta Vinci in last year’s US Open semifinal, Williams will be very mindful of avoiding a repeat performance.

Williams has met Pliskova just once in her career, and the American won that match in straight-sets.

Writer’s Prediction: Williams rolls (-600) to a straight-sets win.

Caroline Wozniacki (+200) vs. Angelique Kerber (-260)

Despite being 72 spots lower in the rankings, Caroline Wozniacki is playing the better tennis than World No. 2 Angelique Kerber heading into their semifinal matchup. The former World No. 1 has won her last four matches – two against top 10-ranked players – in straight sets. She’s coming off her most dominant performance yet as she steamrolled past Anastasija Sevastova, 6-0, 6-2.

A big key to Wozniacki’s recent success is how she’s been able to limit her unforced errors. She has committed just 71 for the entire tournament, and 12 (yes, 12!) in her last two matches.

Facing the World No. 2 will obviously be Wozniacki’s toughest test to date, but she should enter the matchup with a lot of confidence. Despite trailing the career head-to-head, 7-5, Wozniacki actually holds the 5-4 lead over Kerber in their nine hard court meetings.

Writer’s Prediction: Wozniacki (+200) pulls off one more upset as she beat Kerber in three sets.
