2017 NFL Fantasy Football QB Point Projections
1. Aaron Rodgers
2016 Stats: 4,428 passing yards, 40 passing TDs, 7 INTs; 369 rushing yards, 4 rushing TDs
2016 Fantasy Points: 365 (No. 1 QB)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 325.1
Rodgers was money for his fantasy owners last season, racking up almost 4,500 passing yards and scoring 44 total touchdowns for the Packers, whose offense should remain deadly on the air with Rodgers at the helm. The Packers even added a new toy for Rodgers to play with downfield in tight end Martellus Bennett, joining Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson in one of the best receiving casts in the league. If anything, Rodgers split up with long-time girlfriend Olivia Munn and its effect is the only point of concern with regards to the quarterback’s play in 2017. But for now, Rodgers fans have all the reasons to just R-E-L-A-X.
2. Tom Brady
2016 Stats: 3,554 passing yards, 28 passing TDs, 2 INTs; 28 rushing yards, 0 rushing TDs
2016 Fantasy Points: 251 (No. 12 QB)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 328
Brady is aging well. And if it weren’t for the four-game suspension he had to open the 2016 campaign, he would’ve finished the season with even better numbers. Whether you hate Brady or not, it would be hard to ignore the salivating fantasy potential of the quarterback, especially now that Rob Gronkowski is expected to be in 100 percent condition and Brandin Cooks already a part of the Pats’ offense that ranked fourth in 2016 in passing yards per game.
3. Drew Brees
2016 Stats: 5,208 passing yards, 37 passing TDs, 15 INTs; 23 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs
2016 Fantasy Points: 323 (No. 3 QB)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 311.4
Just like Brady, Brees is another old quarterback who could still sling with the best of them. While Brees has lost an elite weapon in Brandin Cooks, who’s now a Patriot, that doesn’t automatically mean his production would hit a dramatic regression. After all, he’s been an elite fantasy quarterback for so long, making it to the top three in fantasy among quarterbacks in seven of the last 11 seasons.
4. Matt Ryan
2016 Stats: 4,944 passing yards, 38 passing TDs, 7 INTs; 117 rushing yards, 0 rushing TDs
2016 Fantasy Points: 334 (No. 2 QB)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 302.7
Atlanta’s offense took flight in 2016 thanks in large part to Kyle Shanahan and though the offensive coordinator is now off to another team, Ryan should remain as one of the most coveted fantasy quarterbacks heading into the season. For one, Julio Jones is still there. Also, Atlanta’s backfield should keep opposing defenses honest with Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman working the ground.
5. Andrew Luck
2016 Stats: 4,240 passing yards, 31 passing TDs, 13 INTs; 341 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs
2016 Fantasy Points: 297 (No. 4 QB)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 298.6
Injuries has hurt Luck’s fantasy ceiling over the past two seasons during which he had missed 10 games. Save for the health risk, players won’t go wrong treating Luck as a high-end QB1, given his talent being maximized in a pass-first offense while playing in a relatively weaker AFC South.
