Dustin Johnson (+1,200)
Dustin Johnson’s number one ranking remaining intact despite not making the cut in his last two tournaments and also being out of action for certain parts of the year is a good indicator of just how good he is. His possible return to form for this week’s all-important British Open should rock the tournament to its core, as he is still able to capture three titles in his injury-plagued 2017 season, along with nine finishes within the top 13.
Jordan Spieth (+1,000)
The youngster (23 years old) is 1B to Johnson’s 1A. He should be one of the easiest bets – not just for Royal Birkdale, but for the coming events as well. He has impressively piled up a good amount of hardwood in his short tenure in the sport’s brightest lights, and with his upside, he should be able to continue doing as such moving forward. Spieth will be fresh of his win at the Travelers Championships, and has placed himself inside the top 4 in four his last five appearances. Further, he has only missed the cut thrice this season (13-of-17).
Rickie Fowler (+1,200)
The man in the orange shirt and/or pants, Rickie Fowler, should be on your radar too. As one of the most talented golfers today who is yet to take home a major championship, he has eased back into his natural groove after a rather quiet 2015 and 2016 season, and his place among the current elites of the game is shaping up. If you’ve been closely following the sport, it’s really easy to see that this is his time. Fowler has finished within the top 5 in three of his last four tournaments, and in 11 of the 13 times he made the cut this season, he was T6 or better.
Rory McIlroy (+1,400)
Forget his limited action this season, as well as his shortcomings in bagging a title halfway into 2017. Rory McIlroy is still one of the game’s most respected players. He has four major titles – with the most recent being the 2014 British Open – and he’ll be entering the track having made the cut seven out of eight times, three of which were inside the top 10.
Jon Rahm (+1,400)
This 22-year-old is another golfing young gun that’s on the rise, and it’s nothing short of exciting. Like Spieth, he’s been positioning himself to step in and be one of the sport’s most buzzed-about names, and like Fowler, he plays with a certain confidence, knowing that his time is getting closer and closer. Rahm made the cut in the 2016 British Open in just his third pro appearance, and even though he went home early in his last two events, he still has six finishes inside the top 5 this year.
