2017 PGA Tour Championship Expert Sleeper Picks
Golf Week
Jeff Babineau – Gary Woodland
Babineau likes Woodland (+4,000) because of his experience at East Lake, as well as his ability to drive the ball well off the tee. Woodland has also had fairly good success on the course, as he’s finished in the top 10 in his last two starts.
Brentley Romine – Xander Schauffele
Romine has Schauffele as his Rookie of the Year, not to mention his sleeper for the Tour Championship. Schauffele is priced at +6,600 to get the win at East Lake.
ProGolfNow
Mike Randleman of ProGolfNow.com has given a trio of his potential sleepers: Webb Simpson (+3,500), Tony Finau (+5,000), and Patrick Cantlay (+3,300).
Randleman notes the terrific consistency his picks have shown lately. All three have made 12 consecutive cuts. Simpson’s form, in particular, has been notable as he has three top-10 finishes in his last four tournaments. Meanwhile, Randleman is in awe of Cantlay, who has skyrocketed up the rankings at such a short period of time.
CBS Sports
Kyle Porter of CBS Sports has also gone with Patrick Cantlay (+3,300) as his guy. Porter notes that Cantlay is No. 7 on tour in terms of strokes gained, and in a tournament that doesn’t exactly have any real “sleepers,” Cantlay could be able to work his magic and win it all at East Lake.
