The Total Payout
There is money to be made at East Lake. Just like the first three FedEx Cup Playoff events, the 2017 Tour Championship boasts a total purse of $8.75 million, with a hefty $1.575 million of that pot going to the eventual champion. That’s great news for this week’s field considering the total payout last year amounted to only $8.5 million.
To put into perspective the difference in prize money, defending champion Rory McIlroy pocketed $1.53 million in cash winnings last year. That’s $45,000 less than the amount the Tour champion will receive this year. Finishing second in this event ain’t bad either with the runner-up receiving a cash payout of $945,000.
