The Total Payout
As with most World Golf Championships events, the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play is one of the more lucrative tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar. In fact, nearly $10 million in total prize money ($9.75 million to be exact) is at stake this week in Austin.
World No. 3 Jason Day – the reigning Match Play champion who’s currently priced at +1,200 to repeat this Sunday – took home $1.62 million as the tournament’s top dog last year. This time around, the overall winner will see a $40,000 increase from last season’s payout, so you can be certain that Day and the entire field will be on the hunt for some big-game cash.
That goes without saying that everybody will come home with a nice paycheck regardless of their order of finish. Golfers who end up in the bottom four of the tournament will still receive close to 50 Gs just for taking part in the event, so a celebratory trip to Red Lobster, at the very least, is never out of the question.
