2017 Wyndham Championship Sleeper Picks and Predictions

With the biggest names in golf not present for the 2017 Wyndham Championship, the door is very much open for a lower-tier player in the field to go out and win the tournament. Here are three such players who have the ability to spring a surprise victory at Sedgefield Country Club.

2017 Wyndham Championship Sleeper Picks

Brandt Snedeker (+3,000)

It’s been a while since Snedeker has been seen on tour. He once again had to withdraw from the PGA Championship due to the rib injury that’s been kept him sidelined for the last few months. It remains to be seen whether Snedeker will finally be good to go at Greensboro and if he can anywhere be as effective as he was earlier in the season. The 36-year-old has four top-10 finishes this season, the most impressive of which was a T9 at the US Open.

If he is, though, he should be a real contender for the title. Snedeker has already come close to winning the Wyndham Championship twice in the last three years. He finished T5 back in 2014, and went a couple spots better at T3 last year.

Bill Haas (+2,000)

Haas is having another very solid season on tour. The 35-year-old is currently No. 32 in the FedEx Cup standings, and most notably finished T5 at the US Open in June. He didn’t fare so well in the British Open, though, as he missed the cut, and also finished way down at T54 at the PGA Championship.

But don’t sleep on Haas’ ability to bounce back, especially at Sedgefield Country Club. From 2012 to 2016, Haas has finished top-22 or better at the Wyndham Championship, which includes a T2 in 2014 and a T6 in 2015.

Billy Horschel (+4,000)

It’s been a weird season for Horschel. He’s made the cut just 14 times in 24 starts, which isn’t a terrific ratio. But of those 14, he’s finished inside the top 10 four times, with a win at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Horschel has had similar Jekyll-and-Hyde tendencies at Sedgefield Country Club. He’s consistently finished outside the top-30 in the tournament for most of his career, but he might have finally figured some stuff out last year, when he finished T5. If that is indeed the case, he could be a surprise contender to win it all this time around.
