Betting Preview for the 2018 Wimbledon Championship Men’s Singles Tournament

FAVORITES:  Roger Federer (+125), Novak Djokovic (+500)

Roger Federer (+125)

Roger Federer owns the most number of Wimbledon titles with eight, which should cancel out any anxiety potential bettors are feeling of the chance of a soon-to-be 37-year-old man winning another Wimbledon title this year. Even at such an advanced age for an athlete, Federer continues to defy father time with a string of solid performances this year. Although he lost in the Finals of the Gerry Weber Open to Borna Coric, it was the second-straight finals appearance for the G.O.A.T., who topped the Mercedes Cup in a prior tournament in Stuttgart, beating Nick Kyrgios and Milos Raonic in the semis and finals, respectively.  And by the way, Federer is also 8-1 on grass matches this year.

Novak Djokovic (+500)

Djokovic, meanwhile, isn’t too shabby with three Wimbledon titles himself. Djokovic has zero singles titles to date this year, so it’s high time for him to get one. Having ruled Wimbledon three times before, this tournament should give him a solid opportunity to get that elusive 2018 win. He’s coming off a nice run in a grass-held event in London, where he reached the finals of the Fever-Tree Championship, though, he lost to Marin Cilic in the titular match.

SLEEPERS: Milos Raonic (+2,000), Sam Querrey (+5,000)

Milos Raonic (+2,000)

Ranked No. 32 in the world, Raonic should be among those getting plenty of looks from bettors eyeing some high-value picks. After all, Raonic made the quarters of last year’s Wimbledon. Prior to that, in 2016, he reached the finals, where he lost to Andy Murray of Great Britain. His last venture on the grass was a forgettable one, striking out of the first round of last month’s Fever-Tree Championship in London. Prior to that, though, he reached the finals of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart before eating a loss handed to him by Federer, as mentioned earlier.

Sam Querrey (+5,000)

As for Querrey, he also has a glitzy background for a deep sleeper like Raonic. The 30-year-old American reached the semis of the Wimbledon last year and the quarters in 2016. He also made it to the round of 16 of the tournament in 2010. What’s probably holding Querrey a bit back in the eyes of oddsmakers is his lack of activity on the grass this year, on which he is 2-1 in 2018.

LONG SHOT: Jack Sock (+10,000)

Querrey isn’t the only American male hope at Wimbledon. There’s also Sock, though, judging from his past performances in the tournament, folks shouldn’t be investing much hope on Sock, who has not gone past the round of 32 in any of his four Wimbledon participations.

Writer’s Prediction

Roger adds more to his legendary career with a ninth win at Wimbledon.
