Expert Picks and Predictions for the 2018 Wimbledon Championship Women’s Singles Tournament
Sports Illustrated
Jon Wertheim – Serena Williams
Stanley Kay – Garbine Muguruza
Jamie Lisanti – Garbine Muguruza
Daniel Rapaport – Serena Williams
Serena Williams is a stone’s throw away from 37 and is still just in the process of getting her bearings back after a long layoff to attend to her pregnancy. Despite all of that, Williams still gets the respect of experts. So much respect, in fact, that some of them still picks Williams to reign supreme at Wimbledon this year. She was looking fine and like her vintage self at the French Open some weeks back until he got ambushed by a pectoral muscle injury that impeded her match to what could’ve been another title run at the prestigious tournament. Williams has seven Wimbledon titles, and the shine from the trophies continue to blind tennis fans and experts alike.
The Saint
Joel McInally – Garbine Muguruza
For all the blend of sentimentality and just reasons why Serena Williams can win it all, those can’t still deny the fact that it’s Muguruza who’s the defending champion at Wimbledon. The 24-year-old Spaniard failed to defend her French Open title this year, when she lost to Simona Halep in the finals at Roland Garros. McInally has split feelings for Muguruza, saying that he won’t be surprised if she either wins it all or gets eliminated early, but she remains her pick to take home the Venus Rosewater Dish this year. Perhaps, McInally’s worries about Muguruza are largely caused by her disappointing round of 32 exit at the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham last month.
Sports Chat Place
Randy Chambers – Serena Williams
Randy Chambers of Sports Chat Place did not explicitly say who his pick is to win the women’s side at Wimbledon, but he did put talked about Williams as though he’s laying his money on her. Chambers notes that any doubts on Williams’ fitness was eliminated by her showing at the French Open before getting taken out of by the aforementioned pectoral muscle injury. Assuming Williams is not yet 100 percent, at least an 80 percent of fitness level for Williams could be enough for her to wrest another Wimbledon crown.
TopBet Writer
Ryan Simpson – Serena Williams
Resident TopBet writer Ryan Simpson has been critical of Williams’ chances to win another (any!) tennis tournament post pregnancy, but when it comes to Wimbledon Simpson is singing another tune, giving the seven time champ his pick to take an eighth.
