Expert Picks and Predictions for the 2020 Australian Open Women’s Singles Tennis Tournament
Tennis Pro Guru
Pick: Karolina Pliskova
Ranked second in the world, Pliskova is always a threat to anyone in any given tournament. That’s also why the fact that the 27-year-old Czech has yet to win a Grand Slam title so far is quite a head-scratcher. Pliskova could be on the cusp of getting his first win in a Grand Slam event, though. She’s showed how ready she is for the 2020 Australian Open when she won the Brisbane International earlier this month, defeating Madison Keys in the finals and another Australian Open favorite, Naomi Osaka, in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, three experts think that Naomi Osaka will be able to defend her title in the Land Down Under. Osaka had her breakthrough into the mainstream when she won the 2019 Australian Open, but has been up and down since. Osaka has made a number of coaching changes during the past several months, but she’s hoping that the new one, Wim Fissette, will be the one to help her deliver o the court consistently.
Jon Wertheim – Sports Illustrated
Pick : Serena Williams
At 38 years old, Williams is still a feared player on the court. She showed that she’s got plenty of gas left in the tank when she made it to the quarterfinals round of the 2019 Australian Open and a couple of runner-up finishes in two other Grand Slams last year — Wimbledon and US Open. Just recently, Williams won her first title of the decade by topping the field in the ASB Classic 2020 in Auckland. Williams has seven Australian Open singles titles.
