The Talladega Superspeedway is among the most unpredictable tracks in NASCAR, which, in a sense, is what makes races there extra special and thrilling. That didn’t stop experts from making their predictions, though, for drivers to watch out for this coming Sunday down in ‘Dega.
SportsLine’s Mike McClure thinks that Clint Bowyer is a big threat to win the 2020 GEICO 500. Bowyer isn’t among the favorites, as he carries odds of +2200 to win the race, but McClure notes that the 15-year veteran of NASCAR has two wins in Talladega. In addition, Bowyer has a pair of runner-up performances at the Talladega Superspeedway, which includes his second-place finish at the 2018 1000Bulbs.com 500. Bowyer has two top 5s in 12 starts, so far this season.

In a fun 40-minute discussion centering around the upcoming Talladega race, the experts at WagerTalk TV, mentioned many names, including two notable ones. Rocky Atkinson believes that Joey Logano (+1000) is going to make loud noises this weekend. Logano, who has two wins on the season, has four top 5s in his past five starts in Talladega. Logano is coming off a 27th-place finish at the 2020 Dixie Vodka 400 at Homestead-Miami, but it seems that he’s going to bounce back just fine in ‘Dega.
Meanwhile, Andy Land mentioned Eric Almirola as a hot hand you can ride on. Almirola is tied with Logano for the best average finish at Talladega Superspeedway in races since 2018. Both Almirola (+2200) and Logano own a 5.25 average finish there during that span. Almirola has finished no worse than ninth in any of his last seven races in Talladega, and he’s coming into this weekend’s race with some great momentum, having placed fifth at Homestead-Miami last Sunday.

But what makes Stenhouse a driver to watch out for is the fact that his average finish at Talladega Superspeedway is 11.62, the second-best career mark there by any active driver. Last year, Stenhouse finished ninth at the 2019 1000Bulbs.com 500 in Talladega.
