With its roots tracing all the way back into 1967, The Northern Trust has become among the most anticipated PGA Tour events over the years.
When it began in the 60s, it was referred to as the Westchester Classic and it continued to be so until 1976 when it turned into the American Express Westchester Classic. Three years later, the tournament changed its name again and became the Manufacturers Hanover Westchester Classic until 1989. From 1990 up to 2004, the tournament bore the name Buick Classic. Over than 14-year span, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, and Sergio Garcia all became two-time winners of the tournament, which was briefly endorsed as the Barclay Classic from 2005 to 2006. Before shifting to its current name, the tournament was referred to as The Barclays from 2007 to 2016.
With all that said, let’s now take a look at how much is at stake this week at TPC Boston, along with a complete breakdown of how the purse will be split amongst the top finishers.
