FAVORITES

Forte (+250)

Forte is getting the most looks among horses expected to race this coming Saturday at Churchill Downs – and for obvious reasons. For one, Forte already has picked up six wins in seven races. Among its many victories to date was at the Grade 1 Florida Derby in April.

Tapit Trice (+450)

Tapit Trice placed just third in its very first start at Aqueduct, but since then, it’s won four consecutive races. It impressed a lot of people with a strong run in last April’s Blue Grass Stakes Grade 1 at Keeneland. It also got the win at the Tampa Bay Derby prior to that.

Practical Move (+1000)

While it doesn’t have the short odds of the likes of Forte and Tapit Trice, Practical Move is nevertheless coming to Churchill Downs with an impressive resume, as it’s on a three-race win streak. In its most recent start, Practical Move won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby following a win at the San Felipe Grade 2 and Los Alamitos Futurity Grade 2 stakes.

SLEEPER

Kingsbarns (+1200)

Here’s what we said about Kingsbarns in our complete preview of the 2023 Kentucky Derby:

Sired by Uncle Mo out of the Tapit mare Lady Tapit, Kingsbarns is coming into the 2023 Kentucky Derby riding a wave of momentum. After all, it has won all of its three races so far in its career. The last time it hit the tracks competitively, Kingsbarns won the Grade 2 Lousiana Derby. Don’t sleep on Kingsbarns.

LONG SHOT

Lord Miles (+4000)

Lord Miles will go to Churchill Downs just a little over a month since it won the Wood Memorial Grade 2 event at the Aqueduct Racetrack.

Writer’s Prediction

Forte wins the 2023 Kentucky Derby.
