Friday night’s covered with baseball, baseball and more baseball. And as always, we’ve hand-picked the best two games in tonight’s schedule.
The first of which features the returning Clayton Kershaw, who’ll look to lead his Los Angeles Dodgers in the first meeting of a three-game set against the Miami Marlins. Later on, the San Francisco Giants send out their own ace in Madison Bumgarner when they square off with the Arizona Diamondbacks in a series opener as well. Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Miami Marlins (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Dodgers (-140) at Miami Marlins (+130); total: 6.5 – view all MLB lines
Clayton Kershaw (11-2, 1.79 ERA) is back. He’s spent the last two months on the disabled list, nursing a herniated disk. But now the former National League MVP can start making up for lost time when the Dodgers collide with the Marlins, a team that he’s very, very familiar with. Kershaw is 5-3 with a quality ERA of 2.40, a 0.93 WHIP and a .189 opponents’ batting average in nine career starts.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are going with ace starter Jose Fernandez (13-8, 3.03 ERA). He’ll look to stop the bleeding tonight, as the 24-year-old righty has struggled in his last seven starts. In that stretch, he is 1-4 with a 4.54 ERA. Miami went 1-6 in that same span.
Los Angeles is 5-5 SU in its last 10 road games, while the Marlins have lost 10 of their past 12 contests overall.
Writer’s Prediction
LA (-140) wins it, 5-1.
San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (9:40 PM ET)
Line: San Francisco Giants (-105) at Arizona Diamondbacks (-105); total: 0.5– view all MLB lines
Madison Bumgarner (14-8, 2.51 ERA) is making his 30th start of the season tonight. This start should put a smile on the Giants, who’ve lost three of their last four games. Bumgarner’s fared pretty well against the D-Backs throughout his career, carrying a 9-7 slate with a 2.40 ERA through 25 games (24 starts). He’s also looking to build on his solid showing in the win over the Cubs last Saturday.
As for the D-Backs, they’re countering with Braden Shipley (3-3, 4.94 ERA). He yielded four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in his last start, but that was fortunately good enough to snag the win over the Rockies. At home this season, Shipley is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in three starts.
San Francisco has won in MadBum’s last five starts. Arizona, on the other hand, is 6-4 SU in its previous 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Giants (-105) win, 4-2.
