Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (+2.5)
Sunday wasn’t a good day for the Eagles, as they dropped a close one in Dallas, losing in overtime, 29-23. They’ll get another road game next week against the Giants, who are also coming off a defeat.
If anything, the Eagles have had a string of success at MetLife Stadium of late, having won all of their last three trips to East Rutherford, dating back to 2013. They also covered the spread in each of those games.
Dallas had its way against the Eagles’ defense, as the Cowboys collected 460 total yards. That may not be the case against the Giants, who are having troubles running their offense. New York is averaging 19.0 points per game, just 26th in the NFL on the season. The Eagles are also jumping from facing the league’s best rushing offense to getting the NFL’s worst, as the Giants are generating just a shade over 70 yards on the ground per game.
Carson Wentz passed for 202 yards and a touchdown without an interception on 32 of 43 completions against Dallas, but was sacked three times. He can expect a better view of the downfield next Sunday, though, as the Giants’ pass rush is mediocre at best. The Giants are near the bottom of the league rankings with just 11.0 sacks.
Betting on the New York Giants (-2.5)
The Giants are back at home after spending Week 7 across the pond and a Week 8 bye. Hopefully for the team, they didn’t forget their defense in London, where they defeated the Rams on October 23, 17-10.
The Giants’ stop unit keyed the win for the team against LA, as they recorded four interceptions off Rams quarterback Case Keenum. Carson Wentz have been a steadier quarterback than Keenum this season, but the Giants’ defense at least has something to build on entering the showdown with the Eagles. So far this season, the Giants are 10th in the league in scoring defense with 20.1 allowed per game.
New York’s offense will have to get better, however, particularly the run game. The Giants had just 36 rushing yards against the Rams on 20 carries. There has to be some variance on offense for New York, as it’s about to face Philly’s defense that lets opponents put up just 307.0 total yards per game, the fifth fewest in the league. Getting Odell Beckham back into fine form would be a big boost for New York.
Beckham was sent crashing back to Earth in London, coming up with just 49 receiving yards on five catches. Beckham was reportedly dealing with a minor hip issue that slowed him down in the Rams game. Given the weight of the contest against the Eagles, expect Beckham to play though the pain. Prior to the loss to LA, Beckham lit up Baltimore in a 27-23 Week 6 home win, finishing with 222 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
