Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (7:00 PM ET)
Line: Atlanta Hawks (+8.5) at Cleveland Cavaliers (-8.5); total 207.0 – view all NBA lines
Only one undefeated team remains in the NBA: the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs are set to put their 6-0 record on the line against the Atlanta Hawks, whom they swept in last year’s playoffs. LeBron James has been sensational in the early going, averaging 22.8 points, 10.7 assists, and 8.8 rebounds. The Cavs have gone 0-4 against the spread in their last four games, but are an immaculate 11-0 (9-2 ATS) in their last 11 meetings with Atlanta.
As for the Hawks (4-2), they snapped a two-game losing skid by grounding the Houston Rockets, 112-97. It was another classic balanced scoring Hawks attack, as Paul Millsap led four Hawks players with 17 or more points. The Hawks are also getting it done on the defensive end. They are currently sixth in the NBA in scoring defense (96.8 points allowed per game), and will look to slow down a Cavs attack which leads the NBA in scoring at 112 points per game.
Writer’s Prediction
The Cavs (-8.5) continue their domination of Atlanta with a 105-90 win.
Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers (10:30 PM ET)
Line: Dallas Mavericks (+5) at Los Angeles Lakers (-5); total: 205.5 – view all NBA lines
The Los Angeles Lakers are looking like one of the surprise packages of this young season. After lossign three in a row (all on the road), the Lakers have gone on a three-game winning streak, which includes blowout home wins over Pacific Division rivals Golden State (117-97) and Phoenix (119-108). D’Angelo Russell (16 points per game) leads a very balanced attack which is currently third in the NBA scoring (110.3 points per game).
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Dallas Mavericks are way down in 28th in scoring (95.5 points per game), which is a major reason why the Mavs are just 1-5 on the season. They finally got win No. 1 last time out as they beat the Milwaukee Bucks, 86-75, at home. With Dirk Nowitzki and Deron Williams sidelined due to injury, Harrison Barnes (21 PPG) and J.J. Barea (17 PPG) will continue to lead the Mavs attack in LA. Dallas is 5-0 (4-1 ATS) in its last five visits to Staples.
Writer’s Prediction
The Lakers (-5) extend their win streak with a 107-100 win over the Mavs.
