Betting on the Atlanta Hawks (24-17)
Paul Millsap’s been the key cog to Hotlanta’s recent success, averaging 19.3 points, 8.3 boards and 4.8 dimes through eight games in January. And during that stretch, the Hawks have gone 7-1 straight up and 6-2 against the spread.
This final regular-season meeting with the Pistons looks to be another impending Atlanta victory. Both teams split the previous two meets, with the Hawks winning the most recent one in a tightly-contested matchup. They won that game mainly thanks to Millsap, who carried them with his 26-point, 6-rebound and 5-assist performance.
The Hawks, overall, have dominated the head-to-head series with Detroit lately, going 7-3 SU and 6-3-1 ATS in the last 10 encounters. It seems likely that the box score continues tilting to their side, especially with the Pistons having lost three of their previous four.
Betting on the Detroit Pistons (19-24)
Detroit capped off its six-game road trip with a come-from-behind win over the Lakers on Sunday night, 102-97.
The Pistons looked underwhelming at the start, but gradually found their rhythm offensively. Tobias Harris led them with 23 points, including a game-sealing three-pointer with 30.5 second left in regulation, to help his team end a three-game slump.
Marcus Morris also pitched in 23 points of his own, while Andre Drummond put up a solid double-double of 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Getting the offense going early on will be crucial for the Pistons in tonight’s game against Atlanta. They haven’t exactly been one of the best scoring teams in the league this season, but they can potentially break the game open in the first quarter, where the Hawks are allowing around 30 points in their last three outings.
Reggie Jackson, in particular, needs to get it going and continue setting teammates up for some easy buckets. On the season, the he’s tallying 16.3 points and a team-best 5.3 assists per game. Jackson also finished with 16 points and five dimes in the win versus LA.
