If there’s one golfer primed for a breakthrough win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week, it’s got to be J.B. Holmes. He’s got a great track record in this event, nabbing five top-20 finishes at Pebble Beach including a tie for second back in 2010. Holmes has been playing some solid golf of late as well, finishing in the top-35 in each of his last two PGA Tour starts at Torrey Pines and TPC Scottsdale.
Looking for a worthy sleeper this week? How about the red-hot Tony Finau? The Utah native has been in fine form of late, notching top-20 finishes in three of his last four starts, including a tie for fourth at the Farmers Insurance Open. Key to Finau’s success this season has been his booming drive. He’s 10th in the PGA Tour in driving distance, averaging 308.9 yards per drive this season. That powerful swing will be a major weapon for Finau when tackling Pebble Beach’s vaunted three-course set-up.
Another golfer who can definitely make a strong run at the Pebble Beach title is J.J. Spaun. The rookie has been playing some outstanding golf of late, finishing in the top-10 in each of his last two starts, including a tie for fourth at the Phoenix Open. Spaun shot a final-round 67 to finish two shots out of the playoff won by Hideki Matsuyama. Look for the LA native to continue making waves in his first trip to Pebble.
