The Total Payout
There is money to be made in West Virginia. The Greenbrier Classic boasts a total purse of $7.1 million, with a hefty $1.278 million of that prize going to the eventual winner. That’s excellent news for the field considering the total payout two years ago (tournament was cancelled last year) amounted to only $6.7 million. To put into perspective the difference in winnings, defending champion Danny Lee (+2,200) earned $1.206 million in prize money last year. That’s $72,000 less than the amount the Greenbrier champion will receive this year. Finishing second in this tournament ain’t bad either with the runner-up receiving a payout of $766,800. On the other end of the leaderboard, the 70th or so golfer to make the cut this week will pocket around $14,200.
