How about a change of scenery—or a change of continent to be precise? The PGA Tour travels across the pond this weekend for the 146th edition of The British Open in England, where the world’s top golfers will get their skills tested by the fine golf course that is the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport.
Life is better and your bank account fatter when you’re good at golf, but how much exactly are these pro golfers expected to take home once the British Open concludes? It’s time to find that out below.

The Total Payout
The total purse for the 2017 British Open is set at $10,250,000. In other words, Stephen Curry could bankroll more or less 30 British Opens this year with the money he was guaranteed to be paid by the Golden State Warriors. We’re not belittling the prizes the best of the best in golf are going to make, though. No matter how you look at it, the winner’s share that’s worth $1.845 million is enough dough to get you one or two golf courses of your own. If you’re an amateur about to rub elbows with the pros in Southport, however, we have a bit of a bad news for you. Per The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (organizers of the tournament):
Amateur players are not eligible to win prize money. If an amateur wins #TheOpen, they will receive the Gold Medal and the Claret Jug.

Still, the Claret Jug is still the Claret Jug and British Open champ will always look good on your Twitter bio.
