2017-18 Premier League Final Table Predictions
City claims the title
This is based on belief in Pep Guardiola more than anything else. Pep had his most difficult season as a manager last season as he was unable to mask City’s glaring deficiencies in defense. Pep wasn’t able to find concrete solutions during the season, but you’d have to think that he’s got a plan in place by now.
United should be stronger, but Chelsea could take a step back with Diego Costa leaving and no suitable replacement lined up. Meanwhile, perennial bridesmaids Tottenham should provide the stiffest challenge, but City has too many weapons. City (+187 to win the title) eventually pulls away and tops the table to claim their third Premier League championship.
Newcastle finishes in the top half
Newcastle is back in the Premier League once again thanks to the leadership of Rafa Benitez. The Spaniard will have a pretty capable squad at his disposal with a handful of young players that already have Premier League experience (i.e. Ayoze Perez, Jonjo Shelvey, Alexandar Mitrovic).
Challenging for European places will likely be a step too far for their first season back, but with a terrific manager like Rafa in charge coupled with all the mediocrity in the Premier League’s middle class, the Toon Army should be able to march right into a top-10 finish.
Burnley goes down
Sean Dyche did a terrific job keeping Burnley up last season. They were able to survive based solely on the back of an incredible home form which saw them pick up 33 of their 40 points. However, that form isn’t going to last forever, and the loss of star defender Michael Keane will make it that much harder for them to keep things tight at the back.
Meanwhile, the Clarets’ continued lack of dependable goalscorers likely means that their fairy tale is set to end this season with relegation, alongside a couple of newly-promoted clubs, Burton & Hove Albion and Huddersfield.
