Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles, who are 4-0 ATS in their last four preseason matches, have stocked up over the offseason and that’s good news for quarterback Carson Wentz, who’ll enter the upcoming season with better weapons surrounding him. The Eagles are among the winners the last spring and this summer with the acquisitions of wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and running back LeGarrette Blount.

In this game, however, Wentz will mostly be working with a slew of third-stringers and players, who’ll likely be cut just before the new season begins. Wentz’s presence in this game isn’t even a lock as it has been a preseason tradition to sit the starting quarterback to give the backups the limelight they rarely will have in the regular season.

Veterans Nick Foles and Matt McGloin are expected to split most of the snaps under center for this game. The two are competing for the backup role to Wentz and this trip to Lambeau Field could help the Eagles in their decision down the road. Former Tulsa Golden Hurricane quarterback Dane Evans should also see time in the backfield.

Betting on the Green Bay Packers

So long as the Packers have Aaron Rodgers, the Packers are always going to be a team to reckon with. Rodgers along with his primary targets in Davante Adams, Jordy Nelson, and Randall Cobb are poised to give opposing defenses major headaches, though, don’t bet on the possibility of any of them seeing action this Thursday.

Instead, much of the focus could be put on the team’s running game, which appears to be a shaky aspect of the Packers heading into the new season. The Packers finished just 22nd last season with 103.2 rushing yards per game and 30th in rushes attempts per contest (22.8). They lost Eddie Lacy over the offseason and as much of a trouble his weight has been for the team, he was Green Bay’s biggest backfield threat outside of Rodgers.

Ty Montgomery is positioned to inherit Lacy’s starting role but rookie Jamaal Williams is someone who could possibly steal that job from Montgomery. This match against the Eagles should shed some light on how the Packers’ run game would look like moving forward.

The Packers are 3-1 SU in their last four preseason games.
