Mayweather vs. McGregor Purse and Prize Money Breakdown

Estimated Purse

The actual purse will depend upon how much revenue the fight generates in terms of pay-per-view sales, in-arena ticket sales, sponsorships, and more. But just about all estimations project that this bout will rake in a ton of cash, which is good news for the fighters.

A good reference point will be the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao bout, which is the richest boxing fight to date, but may not be for much longer. Mayweather-Pacquio set various PPV and in-arena ticket sale records and had a purse reportedly north of $300 million.

At least matching that number is probably what both fighters can realistically expect. But if Mayweather-McGregor manages to surpass the numbers Mayweather-Pacquiao set, as some expect, then they’ll be in line for an even bigger payday, with a total purse that could reach $400 million.

Estimated Split

Apart from the actual purse, the split between the two fighters is also unknown. But since Mayweather is still the much bigger name and the bigger draw compared to McGregor, “Money” will command the lion’s share of the split, with many estimating it to be in the 70-75 percent range.

So after making well over $200 million in the Pacquiao fight, Mayweather could potentially be looking at another insane payday in the $200-300 million range.

Meanwhile, McGregor stands to make anywhere from $60-100 million just by showing up. Even the low side of that estimate would still be several times more than McGregor’s biggest purse for a single fight in MMA, where he’s already by far the highest-paid fighter in the sport’s history.

Regardless of what you think of him personally, you’ve got to admit that it’s mighty impressive how McGregor has worked his way into his current situation where he’ll be part of the richest fight in history.

McGregor is about to earn life-changing money in this fight. And for Mayweather, it’ll be a sweet final payday to add to his fortune if he does, in fact, decide to stick to retirement after fighting McGregor.
