Betting on Kyle Edmund
Current number 45 Kyle Edmund will head to tomorrow’s contest having won six straight, four of which were via straight sets. The resurgence has been a way to show that he can recover from slumps quickly, as he lost four of five matches prior to the winning streak.
Among the guys that the Brit booted out of the tourney is Steve Johnson and Daniil Medvedev, and in those matches, he showed how he can be victorious by domination or coming from behind – he powered through Medvedev in straight sets and sneaked past Johnson despite dropping the opening set.
Whether it’s sweeps or comebacks, though, it’s just good that Edmund is building confidence and collecting Ws before clashing again with Dzumhur. When they met last year at the Australian Open, Edmund ruled the first set, 1-6, but proceeded to go hot-and-cold for the rest of the day before eventually falling, 1-6, 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Edmund is 14-11 on hard courts this season.
Betting on Damir Dzumhur
The 67th-ranked Damir Dzumhur is entering the match as the winner in seven of his last eight, with the last three coming at the Winston-Salem Open, where he has only lost one set. Two of those three opponents are Gilles Simon and Horacio Zeballos, both of which are ahead of him in the world rankings.
The other half of his good stretch includes his great bid for a title at the Santo Domingo Challenger just a week ago. In there, he won four-straight matches via straight sets before bowing in the finals in a competitive exchange.
He’ll be facing a formidable foe tomorrow night. However, coupling his momentum in hard court play with last year’s rallying win over Edmund should make Dzumhur an easy pick in this battle.
The 25-year-old Dzumhur is only 11-7 on hard courts this year, but he has won six of his last seven in such courts.
