Wiliams coasted into the third round at Wimbledon after eliminating Julie Goerges in the third round, 6-3, 6-3. The American was simply too much for Goerges. Williams placed 76 percent of her first serves in and 71 percent of her second serves. With her service game on point, it seems that Navarro will have a hard time winning or breaking serves unlike in her previous match. Williams also won two break points while not allowing Goerges to even get an oppornity. Williams had some extra bounce in her step at Wimbledon, and it showed in the Goerges match. Williams even went 12-of-13 on net points won, constantly attacking the German and reaping success off of that strategy. As mentioned earlier, Williams has yet to lose to Navarro, so she’ll have all the psychological advantage in their upcoming showdown.

For just the third time since she started to compete at the women’s singles tournament at Wimbledon in 2008, Navarro is moving on to the fourth round, as she defeated Lauren Davis in the third round to the tune of a 6-3, 6-3 score. It was a quicker match than the previous one for Navarro, who had to eke out a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4) win over Pauline Parmentier in the second round. One thing about Navarro is that she has yet to drop a set in the tournament, a form that may come as a surprise to a lot of people considering that she got bounced out of the Nature Valley International in Eastbourne after just the first round. Against Davis, Navarro put 68 percent of her first serves in and socred 56 percent of her first-serve points. She also came away with six break points on six chances presented. Navarro has lost all of her six career meetings with Williams, though, none of those matches were on grass.
