For obvious reasons, the 2020 Valero Texas Open got canceled, leaving plenty of money on the table, which would’ve been distributed to the top finishers of that tournament. This time around, though, there will be a PGA TOUR event down at the TPC San Antonio in Texas, and it’s coming with a bigger prize pool. Before the 2020 cancelation, the purse at the 2019 Valero Texas Open was at $7.5 million, but it’s not gotten a boost amounting to $200,000. That’s a very tasty amount for all the players on the field, including the favorites in the likes of Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Tony Finau, and Hideki Matsuyama. Let’s now take a look at how much money the top finishers of the 2021 Valero Texas Open are set to make.

The Total Payout | $7.7 Million
The Valero Texas Open traces its roots all the way back to 1922 when it was still known as the Texas Open. In the inaugural event, Cyril Walker of England won $1,500, the biggest cut of the $5,000 purse. Through the years, the event got more popular and attracted more interest and along with that rise was the increase in the total purse. The purse rose to $10,000 in 1947, to $12,500 in 1954, then hit the $50,000 mark in 1965. Two years later, that got doubled to $100,000, with Deane Beman winning the $20,000 top prize. In 1993, Jay Haas won $180,000 of the $1 million purse. Justin Leonard won the Valero Texas Open three times (2000, 2001, 2007) and took home a total of $1.818. Corey Conners is the last man to win the Valero Texas Open in 2019 when he pocketed $1.35 million.
