Betting on the Iowa Hawkeyes (+3)

Record: 6-1 Overall / 3-1 Conference

Iowa got shocked in its last outing, as the Hawkeyes lost at home to the Purdue Boilermakers on Oct. 16, 24-7. That’s the fewest points the Hawkeyes have generated in a home game in 10 years. Iowa had a bye after that loss, so the Hawkeyes have had plenty of time to fix their issues on offense and prepare for the upcoming road game against Wisconsin. The focus for the Hawkeyes will be on Spencer Petras, who was thoroughly silenced by Purdue. Petras had four interceptions and got sacked four times by the Boilermakers. Still, the Hawkeyes are not going to surprise a lot of people if their offense recovers this coming weekend. They scored at least 27 points against ranked opponents in the Indiana Hoosiers and the Iowa State Cyclones earlier this season and produced 23 points in a win against a tough Penn State Nittany Lions defense.

Iowa is 2-0 against the spread in its last two games against the Badgers.

Betting on the Wisconsin Badgers (-3)

Record: 4-3 Overall / 2-2 Conference

The Hawkeyes couldn’t solve Purdue, but Wisconsin did. The Badgers racked up their third win in a row by defeating the Boilermakers on the road last Saturday, 30-13. Chez Mellusi burned rubber for 149 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. Braelon Allen added 140 more rushing yards and a pair of rushing scores on 12 attempts. That’s probably not the kind of rushing offense Iowa is ready to handle after such a deflating loss. But apart from Wisconsin’s ground attack, the Badgers’ defense could give Petras new nightmares to deal with. Wisconsin recorded three defensive interceptions against the Boilermakers and rendered Purdue’s run game useless, limiting it to negative yards. The Badgers are second nationally in total defense with just 223.0 total yards allowed per game.

The under is 5-1 in Wisconsin’s last six games as the home team.

Writer’s Prediction

Wisconsin wins, 33-23.
