[sc:MLBArticles ]MLB Picks and Predictions for Friday, June 13, 2014
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Toronto Blue Jays (-112) at Baltimore Orioles (+102); total: 9.0 – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]The Baltimore Orioles have the perfect opportunity to reduce the lead of American League East division leaders Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays, who lead the O’s by 3.5 games in the AL East, are on a three-game losing streak, and are 1-5 in their last six overall. However, the O’s will have the shaky Ubaldo Jimenez (2-7, 5.01 ERA) on the mound. Baltimore owns a poor 0-6 record in Jimenez’s last six starts.
Writer’s Prediction: Toronto will rock Jimenez, and win the series opener.
Cleveland Indians vs. Boston Red Sox (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Cleveland Indians (+135) at Boston Red Sox (-150); total: 8.5 – see all MLB lines
The Cleveland Indians have now lost three in a row, including a 5-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox in the first of their four-game series. The Tribe will have Justin Masterson (4-4, 4.61 ERA) tonight, though, who three-hit the Red Sox in Cleveland’s 3-2 win last June 2. Moreover, the over is 3-1 in Masterson’s last four starts at Fenway Park. The under, meanwhile, is 6-1 in Red Sox pitcher John Lackey’s (7-4, 3.18 ERA) last seven starts overall.
Writer’s Prediction: Once again, Masterson pitches a gem to lead the Indians to a win.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Atlanta Braves (7:35 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Angels (-108) at Atlanta Braves (-102); total: 7.0 – see all MLB lines
C.J. Wilson has had tremendous success in interleague games. He has a 6-0 record with a 3.33 ERA in his last 11 regular season starts against National League teams. He’ll look to improve that record when he duels the Atlanta Braves’ Aaron Harang (4-3, 3.33 ERA), who has allowed two earned runs in three of his last four home starts. The over is 3-1 in the Braves’ last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction: Wilson improves is record, as the Angels trump the Braves.
New York Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics (10:05 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees (+155) at Oakland Athletics (-175); total: 7.5– see all MLB lines
Derek Jeter (3-for-4, two RBIs) and Jacoby Ellsbury (1-for-3, two RBIs) spearheaded the New York Yankees’ surge last night to sweep the Seattle Mariners in their three-game series. They need more of that kind of offense tonight as they are just 0-7 in their last seven trips to O.co Coliseum. Sonny Gray (6-2, 2.82 ERA) will start for Oakland tonight. The A’s are 4-2 in Gray’s last six home starts.
Writer’s Prediction: The Yankees’ offense continues to sizzle as they beat Sonny Gray and the A’s.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)
Line: Arizona Diamondbacks (+190) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-220); total: 6.5– see all MLB lines
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ bats were hushed anew last night, when the Cincinnati Reds dealt them a 4-1 loss. Although they will have Clayton Kershaw (5-3, 3.17 ERA) on the mound, the Dodgers must find more run support for their ace. The Arizona Diamondbacks have repeatedly found a way to beat the 2013 NL Cy Young winner, going 7-1 in their last eight games against Kershaw. The Dodgers are 3-1 in Kershaw’s last four starts.
Writer’s Prediction: The D’backs get just enough runs to beat Kershaw and the Dodgers.
