Betting on the Milwaukee Brewers
The NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers want to go back to the winning column after a loss to the New York Mets on Sunday.
[sc:MLB240banner ]To help fuel the rebound, the Brewers will send Kyle Lohse (11-4, 3.07 ERA) to the mound in their first game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Lohse has proven to be a valuable commodity for Milwaukee this season, as he leads the team in ERA and strikeouts (101). The Milwaukee Brewers are 4-1 in Lohse’s last five road starts.
Lohse can keep his focus knowing that the Brewers batters are more than capable of supporting him with runs. The Brewers are seventh in the league in runs scored (464) and have the sixth-most home runs overall at 108.
Leading the team in home runs is left fielder Khris Davis and first baseman Mark Reynolds (both with 17). Davis and Reynolds have three homers a piece over their last 10 contests. Jonathan Lucroy will also be valuable at the plate. He has gone 9-for-34 with three homers in his last 10 games. Lucroy has been the most consistent batter for the Brewers this season, hitting .310.
The Milwaukee Brewers are 1-4 in their last five interleague games.
Betting on the Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays have exploded this month, including an impressive nine-game win streak that saw them post a team ERA of 1.33 and outscore their opponents 48-15. However, their streak was halted by a narrow 3-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox in their previous game.
At the plate, James Loney has been hitting well for the Rays. In the team’s last 10 games, Loney has gone 14-for-38 with three RBIs and six runs scored. Loney is also the lone Tampa Bay batter to have gone against Milwaukee’s starter. In his career, Loney has hit .278 against Lohse.
Aside from Loney, Matt Joyce and Kevin Kiermaier have also hit well for the Rays. Joyce has hit .323 in his last 10 games, while Kiermaier has averaged .385. They will be valuable in providing run support to their starter Jake Odorizzi (6-8, 3.97 ERA).
On the mound, Tampa Bay’s Odorizzi is currently enjoying back-to-back wins, surrendering only four earned runs while striking out 15. He is 3-1 in July and has not surrendered more than three runs in the month.
The Tampa Bay Rays are 4-1 in their last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Tampa Bay Rays (-132) will remain hot and take one against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers.
