[sc:Football ]2015 NFL Week 5 Fantasy Sleepers
Tavon Austin – Wide Receiver, St. Louis Rams
[sc:NFL240banner ]Week 4 was without a doubt memorable one for the St. Louis Rams, who shocked the world when they handed Carson Palmer and the rest of the Arizona Cardinals their first loss of the season. Playing a big part in that feat was their third-year wide receiver in Tavon Austin.
Austin had his best performance thus far this year, as he was just four yards away from his second career 100-yard game. He helped the Rams earn their second win by hauling in six of seven targets along with a pair of touchdowns, while lighting up the fantasy scoreboard with 23 huge points. This performance may not have been just mere coincidence especially with RB Todd Gurley’s presence getting most of the attention of the defense.
Ronnie Hillman – Running back, Denver Broncos
As long as the Bronco’s starting RB C.J. Anderson continues his struggles this season, head coach Gary Kubiak is going to rely more heavily on Ronnie Hillman to spark up their ground attack.
Hillman did just that against during their thrilling 23-20 win opposite the Vikings on Sunday and clearly outplayed Anderson, who turned in his fourth straight game with fewer than four yards per carry. The 24-year-old California native rumbled for 103 yards on 11 carries and registered a 72-yard touchdown. He’s definitely turning out to be another reliable target for Peyton Manning.
Gary Barnidge – Tight End, Cleveland Browns
If you’re searching for a temporary replacement for the likes of Jordan Cameron and Greg Olsen, who are both on bye this coming week, then Gary Barnidge might just be the answer you’re looking for.
Barnidge’s fantasy value has been on a consistent rise over the past two weeks. He’s become big source of fantasy points in that stretch, converting 16 targets into 10 catches for a total of 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns across his name.
Jay Cutler – Quarterback, Chicago Bears
After missing one full game and most of another, Jay Cutler gave fantasy owners a reason to take a risk on him for Week 5. Cutler did so with a solid performance in the Bears’ win over the Raiders, as he threw for 281 yards and hooked up with Martellus Bennett and Eddie Royal for his two touchdowns.
Consistency has been Cutler’s main waterloo throughout his career but it’s safe to say his value is pretty high in a short-term perspective. He’s on track for another strong output this weekend against a Kansas City Chiefs team that allows 397.0 total yards per contest, the fourth-most in the NFL.
Cairo Santos – Kicker, Kansas City Chiefs
Cairo Santos was one of the main headlines of the recent concluded week. Santos nearly tied the record for most FGs made in one game when he nailed of his seven field goals in a losing effort to the Bengals. This outburst was certainly a surprise, as the 23-year-old placekicker only attempted a single field goal in Week 2 and 3 combined.
But Santos would be a decent starting option in Week 5 versus an unproven Bears’ defensive unit.
New York Giants Defense
The Giants’ defense made its presence felt in their important road win against the Bills on Sunday. They forced a pair of turnovers and registered two sacks on quarterback Tyrod Taylor, while allowing their opponents to just score 10 points at the end of the game.
Looking towards to their Week 5 matchup, New York’s defense could be in for another efficient outing in Week 5, as their scheduled opponents—San Francisco 49ers—have been struggling to take care of their possessions and haven’t found an offensive rhythm in the past few weeks.
