Betting on the Akron Zips (TBA)

Akron clinched its 22nd-straight home win on Wednesday night against Coppin State, putting them four victories shy of equaling the arena record. But the Zips won’t be at home this weekend when they have a go at undefeated No. 8 Gonzaga, which marks their second game against a ranked foe this season.

The Zips fought valiantly versus No. 10 Creighton about five days ago, managing to stay within striking distance for the most part of the game.  Kwan Cheatham Jr. led Akron with 17 points and seven rebounds, while senior big man Isaiah Johnson dropped 10 of his 13 points in the final period.

Johnson, who is averaging a team-leading 15.2 points per game, has scored in double-digits in all but one game this season, including 14 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting versus the still-winless Eagles. He, along with Antino Jackson (12.0 PPG) and Noah Robotham (10.1 PPG), will look to carry the offense past a Bulldogs defense that’s among the best in the country.

Akron is 1-4 SU and 1-3-1 ATS in its last five road games overall.

Betting on the Gonzaga Bulldogs (TBA)

No. 8 Gonzaga improved to 9-0 overall after Wednesday night’s win over Washington, and appears to be a lock to go dancing for the 17th-consecutive season.

Nigel Williams-Goss, despite playing against his former teammates and coaches, lit up the stat sheet with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting to go along with five rebounds and five dimes. On the year, he leads the Zags in scoring (13.7 PPG) and is one of six players who’s averaging at least nine points per game for the team.

Having that amount of scoring options should explain why the Bulldogs are piling up nearly 90 points per game—85.1 to be exact—thus far. They’ve also made life difficult for opponents with a defense that ranks 50th nationally.

This weekend’s favorable home game with Akron should be a relatively easy one for the Zags, who are attractively priced at +2,200 to win it all this year.
