Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-6.5)
Record: 10-2 Overall/6-2 Conference
Although they’re not playing in the College Football Playoff semis, the Crimson Tide will still have Bryce Young under center. That’s huge for Alabama, which many still believe should’ve earned a ticket to the CFP. Young had a fantastic regular season in 2022, passing for 3,007 yards and 27 touchdowns with only five interceptions. Alabama averaged 41.4 points per game in 2022. It definitely knows how to put a bunch of points on the board, thanks to a stacked roster filled with players who will soon be playing in the NFL. The same can be said about Alabama’s defense which allowed fewer than 20 points per game in the regular season.
Alabama is 5-1 against the spread in its last six bowl games.
Betting on the Kansas State Wildcats (+6.5)
Record: 10-3 Overall/7-2 Conference
Kansas State will arrive in the showdown against the Crimson Tide riding a huge wave of momentum. The Wildcats are on a four-game win streak, during which they have defeated the Baylor Bears, West Virginia Mountaineers, Kansas Jayhawks, and, of course, the TCU Horned Frogs in the Big 12 Championship Game. Will Howard has been integral to the success of Kansas State of late, and he’ll have the keys to the offense of the Wildcats in the Sugar Bowl. Kansas State finished the regular season 24th nationally with 33.2 points per game. While Howard will start, Adrian Martinez can still make an appearance for the Wildcats, who don’t commit plenty of turnovers and lean heavily on a rushing attack that generated 202.3 yards per outing.
Kansas State is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games in a neutral location.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 27-20.
