Line: Ashleigh Barty (-155) vs. Marketa Vondrousova (+125)
Betting on the Ashleigh Barty (-155)
The Barty Party isn’t over yet in Paris. Barty made sure that her 2019 French Open campaign would not end in the semifinals by defeating Amanda Anisimova in that round to the tune of a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3 victory. Barty showed incredible resiliency in that contest. She became the first player in the tournament to win a set against Anisimova. Barty’s service game was on point in the semis, scoring five aces against zero by Anisimova, placing 52 percent of her first serves in, and winning 69 percent of her first serve points. Barty betrayed her diminutive stature with his amplified play. She was relentlessly going after Anisimova, netting 13 net points on 21 attempts. She also had 40 games winners to just 33 by her opponent. Barty does look like have the psychological advantage over Vondrousova in the Finals. In two past meetings with Vondrousova, Barty won both, though, neither of those matches were done on the clay court. Barty, who made the quarterfinals of the 2019 Australian Open, is making just her first semifinals appearance at a Grand Slam singles tournament.
Betting on the Marketa Vondrousova (+125)
Vondrousova is seeing her star get brighter every passing day at the French Open. In her latest conquest, the American took down Johanna Konta in the semifinals, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2). In other words, Vondrousova has yet to drop a set in the tournament, and now, she has a chance of winning the 2019 French Open with zero sets lost. Vondrousova simply dominated Konta. Vondrousova put 68 percent of her first serves in and won 65 percent of her first serve points. She broke Konta four times in nine chances and went 10-for-12 on net point opportunities. Vondrousova also showed some pop in her return game, as she won 45 percent of her receiving points. Like Barty against Anisimova, Vondrousova displayed steel-strong will to win despite struggling early in the match. Konta won the first 10 points of the match, but Vondrousova roared back to life and took care of business, so expect her to strike back instead of wilt if ever she gets behind early in the Finals against Barty.
Writer’s Prediction
Vondrousova upset Barty and wins the French Open in three sets.
