Australia still has a chance to advance to the next round, but for that to happen, they will have to beat winless Peru. Will the Socceroos get the three points? Or will Los Incas spoil Australia’s round of 16 teams and get that elusive World Cup victory?
The Socceroos need a win against Peru they are to have a shot at seeing action in the next round. After a gallant stand in a 2-1 loss to powerhouse France in their opener, Australia flashed their fangs once again in a 1-1 draw with Denmark last Thursday. Although they have yet to get a win, the Australians have at least showed ability and consistency on offense having not allowed themselves get shut out in any of their outings so far. All of their scores, however, were produced by midfielder Mile Jedinak, so other guys will have to step it up against Peru in order to spread the defensive focus of their opponents. Forward Mathew Leckie took six shots against Denmark with two on target. He will have to continue that kind of activity this coming Tuesday.

Los Incas will not be playing for a spot in the round of 16 as they are now eliminated following a 1-0 loss at the hands of Les Bleus last week Thursday. Still, Peru don’t want to get home and alight the plane without a win to show for their countrymen, which is why they are expected to play the Australians like there’s no tomorrow. Practically speaking, they don’t have any tomorrow to look forward following the Australia match, and while they’re out of contention, Peru possess a serious threat for the Socceroos’ round of 16 ambitions. Striker Paolo Guerrero could be due for a goal, as he had two shots that both went on target against France. Peru have yet to find the back of the net in Russia, and getting at least a score versus Australia will give the team and the South American nation something to feel good about.
